The sales transaction of Maksekeskus was completed
Today, Omniva and other shareholders finalised the sale of Maksekeskus to Luminor Bank, a new strategic investor. The transaction was approved by the Financial Supervision Authority and the Competition Authority. The parties announced the signing of the agreement and their intention on 1 February.
Maksekeskus was founded in 2012 with the aim of providing secure and convenient payment solutions and e-commerce services to e-merchants and their customers. Payments are mediated through Maksekeskus in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Finland.
According to Mart Mägi, Chairman of the Management Board of Omniva, the Maksekeskus team has done an excellent job. ‘We believe that with a new strategic owner, there will be even more exciting challenges ahead. We would like to thank the Maksekeskus team and the other shareholders and wish the Luminor team every success,’ said Mägi.
‘In accordance with the strategy of Omniva, the activities provided by Maksekeskus are no longer strategically important for the company. The services of Maksekeskus are fully free market services and not of national importance,’ Mägi added. ‘With the proceeds from the sale of Maksekeskus, we want to improve the availability of postal services by renovating post offices and increasing the network of parcel machines in rural areas, as well as increase the level of automation in the provision of parcel services, which have grown significantly during COVID-19.’
According to Peter Bosek, CEO of Luminor, the transaction will support the bank’s growth strategy and will increase the range of products and customer service capabilities. ‘The acquisition of Maksekeskus strengthens Luminor’s position in the fast-growing e-commerce payments market. It will also help to increase the bank’s share in the Estonian SME segment. We look forward to working with Arti and the Maksekeskus team to deliver innovative payment solutions to our large SME network,’ Bosek added.
Omniva is an Estonian state-owned multinational group providing parcel, postal, digital, and international transit services. The Omniva Group consists of AS Eesti Post as the parent company and the subsidiaries OÜ Finbite, UAB Omniva LT and UAB Omniva LT Sorting in Lithuania, and SIA Omniva in Latvia.
