Thanks to a smart development, Omniva will be fitting thousands of additional parcels in the parcel machines

In order to increase the convenience of the customer service, Omniva deployed a new solution in its entire parcel machine network in the Baltic states which enables to use one locker to store several different parcels ordered by the same individual. The upgrade will not extend the delivery time of the parcels.

According to Kristi Unt, the head of Omniva Estonia, the new solution is focused on convenience for the customers and more efficient use of the parcel machine lockers without extending the delivery times. ‘The new solutions will be used when a parcel arrives for a customer while there is still a previous parcel waiting for them in the parcel machine. If possible, the new parcel will be stored in the same locker with the previous one and the same locker code will be used. Upon submitting the code, the parcel machine will notify the customer that there are several parcels in the same locker,’ said Unt. The development will enable to make available the amount of space which is equivalent to almost forty new parcel machines in the Baltic states.

The number of customers who visit the parcel machine to pick up several parcels at once is higher than one might think. ‘During normal parcel volume periods, this solution will help us make room for thousands of new parcels every week. Before Christmas and during other parcel-sending peak seasons, however, the expected impact is several times larger, as the number of people actively ordering parcels is significantly higher,’ explained Unt.

In order to make the Christmas period smoother, Omniva is already filling the most popular parcel machines several times per day on all days of the week. In December, Omniva’s parcel machine network will also be extended in eleven counties. ‘We are working hard to make this year’s e-commerce peak season pass without longer parcel machine queues,’ added Unt.

Omniva’s parcel machines are accessible regardless of the time of day or day of the week. Furthermore, they are located outdoors, where there are fewer people around and the risk of infection is lower. The touch screens of the parcel machines are cleaned regularly, but the machine can also be used without physical contact: the screens of Omniva’s parcel machines also work with gloves, and contactless payments are available in all parcel machines.
