Omniva pilot project expands to Southern Estonia – residents of Tõrvandi and Ülenurme can try out a private parcel locker at their doorstep free of charge
International technology and logistics group Omniva is expanding its Picapac private parcel locker pilot project, previously only available in Harju County, to Southern Estonia. As part of the project, homeowners, townhouse residents and small businesses in Tõrvandi and Ülenurme can have a private parcel locker installed at their doorstep free of charge.
The Picapac parcel locker can receive deliveries from Omniva as well as other courier companies, including food delivery orders and more. It can also be used to send parcels. When sending or receiving parcels with Omniva, the standard parcel locker service rates apply. In addition, Picapac provides access to extra services such as laundry services.
The private parcel locker also receives regular mail. Letters and newspapers or magazines are stored in a dry and secure location instead of a traditional mailbox, and customers receive a notification when their mail has arrived.
As part of the pilot project, Omniva offers free delivery, installation and use of the parcel locker for three months. “This gives people the opportunity to try the solution at no cost and see whether it adds value to their daily lives. At the end of the trial period, they can either return the parcel locker or continue using it for a monthly fee,” said Aleksei Kolesnikov, Picapac Product Manager at Omniva.
Omniva’s goal is to test the demand for and usability of private parcel lockers in real-life conditions in densely populated residential areas. “We want to understand whether a dense network of private parcel lockers could improve Omniva’s operational efficiency and prove economically viable,” Kolesnikov added.
To participate in the pilot project, interested residents need to complete an application form. Omniva will then contact applicants directly.
In addition to the new residential areas in Southern Estonia, Picapac parcel lockers are also available to residents of Kiili, Kohila, Saue, Kakumäe, Tabasalu, Tiskre, Nõmme, Viimsi, Peetri and Uuesalu. The pilot area continues to expand. Those living outside the current project area can join a waiting list. When selecting new locations, Omniva takes into account the number of people from each area who have joined the list.
