Kvartali Post Office in Tartu To Close On 6 May

Due to declining customer visits, Omniva will close the Kvartali post office in Tartu from 6 May. In Tartu, two post offices will remain – the Eedeni and Ringtee post offices.

Over the past year, an average of 70 parcels per day were handled through Tartu’s post offices combined, while parcel lockers in Tartu handle an average of 2,300 parcels per day.

“People’s consumption habits have changed – visits to post offices are declining rapidly as customers increasingly prefer parcel lockers. During 2026, we will bring the postal network better in line with society’s changing needs by reducing the number of post offices across Estonia and increasing the number of parcel lockers,” explained Lylian Peek, Head of Omniva’s Post Office Network.

As the Kvartali and Eedeni post offices are located close to each other and duplicate each other’s services, maintaining both locations is no longer reasonable given the declining volumes. Over the past year, visits to the Kvartali post office decreased by 26%, while visits to the Eedeni post office fell by 10%. The Eedeni post office also offers better parking conditions, a larger warehouse and more suitable premises.

All postal services will remain accessible to residents of central Tartu.

Both domestic and international parcels can be registered for sending in Omniva’s self-service environment via the mobile app or on the web at minu.omniva.ee. Parcels can be picked up and dropped off from parcel lockers or by courier. There are currently four parcel lockers in central Tartu: the Tasku Centre parcel locker, Kvartali Centre parcel locker, Kesklinna Centre parcel locker and Turu Lidl parcel locker.

Postage stamps and other mailing supplies can be purchased from resellers. In central Tartu these include the Tartu City Museum, the R-kiosk in Kvartali Centre, the Charlot store in Kaubamaja and Büroopluss, as well as Omniva e-shop.

The Eedeni Centre is located approximately 2.3 km from the Kvartali Centre. The Ringtee post office in Tartu will also remain open.

Locations of all Omniva post offices, parcel lockers, resellers and letterboxes can be found here.

For residents with mobility difficulties or those who are not yet ready to use technological solutions, Omniva offers the personal postal service – an option to invite a postal courier to your home or workplace. Through the courier, customers can use all the same services available at a post office: purchase stamps and other supplies, send and receive letters and universal service parcels, pay bills and order periodicals.

“We wish all residents of Tartu a smooth transition to new postal service solutions,” said Lylian Peek.
