Giants of the Baltic Sea featured on new postage stamps
On 25 June, Omniva will issue the “Giants of the Baltic Sea” stamp set featuring Tallink Group’s vessels MyStar and Baltic Queen. The stamps pay tribute to the ships that connect Estonia with Finland and Sweden by sea while continuing Estonia’s long-standing passenger shipping tradition. The stamps were designed by Kaarel Kukk.Following the restoration of Estonia’s independence, passenger shipping entered a new era. Founded in 1989, Tallink has grown into the largest passenger shipping company on the Baltic Sea. A major milestone was reached twenty years ago when Tallink merged with Silja Line.
“Omniva believes that postage stamps should tell stories that matter to Estonia. For centuries, the sea has been Estonia’s gateway to its neighbours, and even today many people rely on ferries to travel to work, visit family and friends or simply discover new places. MyStar and Baltic Queen help keep Estonia connected with Finland and Sweden, which is why they deserve a place on these stamps,” said Katri Laanela, Head of Postal Services at Omniva.Today, Tallink’s vessels play an important role in connecting people, countries and economies across the Baltic Sea.
“Tallink’s story is inseparable from the revival of Estonia’s passenger shipping after the restoration of independence. Over the past three decades, we have grown into the Baltic Sea’s largest passenger shipping company, with our vessels serving as vital links between the countries and people of the region. The ships featured on these stamps, MyStar and Baltic Queen, symbolise both the continuity of Estonia’s maritime tradition and Tallink’s role in maintaining connections between Estonia, Finland and Sweden,” said Peep Jalakas, Chairman of the Management Board of Tallink Grupp.
The MyStar stamp costs €1.80 and is intended for domestic mail. The print run is 110,000 stamps. The Baltic Queen stamp costs €3.90 and is intended for international mail. The print run is 3,000 stamps.Both stamps are self-adhesive and printed by AS Vaba Maa. Each sheet contains ten stamps. The First Day stamp is available at the Tallinn Kaubamaja post office. The stamps are available in the Omniva e-shop and at post offices across Estonia.
Omniva stamps are printed on paper bearing the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification for responsible forestry. The FSC label confirms that the wood used to produce the paper comes from responsibly managed forests.
