Estonia’s first space-themed stamp block is released
On 10 April, Omniva will issue Estonia’s first space-themed stamp block, opening a new chapter in Estonian philately dedicated to astrophilately. The stamp block was designed by Kaarel Kukk and features the celestial bodies of our Solar System – the Sun, Earth, the Moon and Mars.
Space is one of the most international and enduring themes in philately. It symbolizes the spirit of discovery, scientific progress and the shared future of humankind. Space-themed stamps bring science, imagination and a broader perspective on everyday life to postage stamps.
“For more than a century, Estonian philately has reflected our country and people across different eras, depicting people connected to Estonia, achievements, heroes and our rich natural world. More rarely, however, have postage stamps looked beyond all this – into space, towardsthe broader context of our home planet and the neighbouring celestial bodies that humanity is still learning to understand,” said Hannes Nagel, Head of Philately at Omniva.
“Philately enthusiasts have been hoping for space-themed postage stamps for some time. This issue connects our small country with the vast universe and brings a dimension of knowledge, technology and hope for the future to postage stamps. With these stamps, we want to highlightthat science and space exploration also belong to contemporary culture and intellectual history,” added Nagel.
The stamp block costs €7.20 and consists of four different stamps suitable for domestic letters. The circulation of the stamp block is 5,000 copies. It is a limited edition. The stamp block is available in Omniva’s online shop and at post offices across Estonia. The issue has two First Daypostmarks, available at the Tallinn Kaubamaja post office.
In 2026, Omniva will issue over 40 postage stamps marking important themes and events in the history and culture of Estonia and Estonian society. Omniva’s stamps are printed on paper bearing the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) mark for responsible forestry. The FSC label confirmsthat the wood used to produce the paper comes from responsibly managed forests.
