Estonians Want to See Fellow Estonians on Stamps. What Stamps Should Be Issued Next Year?

Omniva invites everyone—individuals and organizations—to submit proposals for postage stamps reflecting Estonia’s national life, history, culture, and other significant topics and events. Ideas can be submitted until the end of May. The best proposals will be included in Estonia’s 2026 stamp programme.
“A postage stamp is like Estonia’s business card to the world. Stamps that travel across the globe via mail and collectors showcase our country and society, the symbols, heroes, and events that are important to our culture. Deciding which stamps to issue is essentially deciding how we want to present ourselves to the world,” said Omniva’s CEO Martti Kuldma.
While the final stamp plan is determined by the Stamp Emission Committee, anyone can submit ideas. This opportunity has been actively used each year by citizens, companies, institutions, and other organizations. A good practice has been for the proposing organization to also host a stamp presentation event in collaboration with Omniva. Last year, 102 proposals were submitted for the 2025 stamp plan, with 14 of those ideas brought to life.
“Last year’s proposals clearly showed that Estonians want to see more Estonians on stamps. That led to the creation of a new stamp series, Great Estonians, which aims to equally highlight male and female scientists and introduce their work to the world,” said Kuldma. Thanks to submitted ideas, the 2025 stamps will mark the 125th birth anniversary of pharmacist Alma Tomingas and the 100th anniversary of natural scientist Viktor Masing.
This year’s stamps will also feature themes such as the common juniper, martyr Eduard Profittlich, and traditional Estonian sauerkraut and barley stew (mulgikapsad), thanks to last year’s proposals.
“It’s truly delightful to see society actively involved in identifying what’s culturally important for Estonia! We hope to receive plenty of meaningful proposals again this year,” Kuldma added.
For decades, Estonian stamp design has honored events and anniversaries that reflect our nation’s history, culture, and achievements. Major jubilees and events of national and international importance are often featured. There are also regular thematic series focused on Estonian birds, trees, art, and other symbols. How to Submit Your Idea
To propose a theme for the 2026 stamp programme, fill in a short form indicating the event or topic to be featured and a brief explanation of why this idea deserves a stamp. The form can be filled in here.
Proposals can be submitted until 31 May. Over the summer, the Stamp Emission Committee will review all entries and make a selection. Omniva will announce the 2026 stamp plan in the autumn.
If your idea doesn’t make it into next year’s programme or you’d like a custom stamp sooner, you can design and order your own stamp using Omniva’s My Stamp service in the e-shop.
