Estonian music gets its own stamp series. The first stamp features 5MIINUST
On 15 July, Omniva will issue the first postage stamp in its new Estonian Music stamp series, featuring the members of one of Estonia’s best-known hip-hop bands, 5MIINUST. This is the first time a dedicated stamp series has been created to celebrate Estonian music. The stamp was designed by Birgit Pajust.
5MIINUST is one of the most prominent bands in contemporary Estonian music. Over the past ten years, four musicians from the small coastal town of Võsu have grown into one of the defining bands of their generation, leaving a distinctive mark on Estonian popular music with their unique style and memorable live performances. The band has collaborated with many well-known Estonian artists and represented Estonia at the Eurovision Song Contest together with Puuluup.
“We are pleased to issue the first stamp in the Estonian Music series. Through postage stamps, Omniva has the opportunity to tell stories about what matters to the people of Estonia. The new series will bring Estonian musicians, bands, songs and musical works that have touched people across generations to postage stamps. We hope the 5MIINUST stamp will also appeal to people who have not previously taken an interest in stamps and inspire a new generation to discover philately,” said Katri Laanela, Head of Postal Services at Omniva.
5MIINUST and Omniva invite everyone to the stamp presentation taking place today at 1:00 p.m. in the outdoor area by the Estonian National Museum. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the members of 5MIINUST, purchase the new stamp and First Day Covers, and visit the 5MIINUST exhibition opening in the museum’s Hurt Hall.
The 5MIINUST stamp costs €1.80 and is intended for domestic mail. The print run is 10,000 stamps. The self-adhesive stamp was printed by AS Vaba Maa. The stamp and First Day Cover are available in the Omniva e-shop and at post offices across Estonia. Two First Day stamps have been issued and are available at the Tallinn Kaubamaja and Tartu Eeden post offices.
The initial quantity of First Day Covers is limited. Additional First Day Covers have been ordered and will become available in the Omniva e-shop and at post offices across Estonia after production is completed.
Omniva stamps are printed on paper bearing the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification for responsible forestry. The FSC label confirms that the wood used to produce the paper comes from responsibly managed forests.
