Beloved Estonian Actor Kaljo Kiisk Honored with Postage Stamp

Today, on 1 October, Omniva releases a new postage stamp in its popular “Great Estonians” series to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Kaljo Kiisk – a cherished actor, director, and public figure. The stamp was designed by Triin Heimann, the artist behind the “Great Estonians” series.

Kaljo Kiisk (1925–2007) was one of the towering figures in Estonian cultural history. His creative legacy is defined by versatility and heartfelt warmth. As a director, actor, and stage artist, his work spanned from theatre to cinema, offering stories that reflected both national identity and universal human values. His characters and productions spoke not only to their own time but continue to resonate with future generations – rooted in honesty, empathy, and human courage.

“Kaljo Kiisk can serve as an inspiring example for today’s youth through his multifaceted career. He was a creative artist and acclaimed actor, but also an active shaper of public life, serving as a member of the Estonian Parliament. His life and work show that talent and energy can be applied across many fields, and that art and creativity can reach far beyond a single form of expression,” said Hannes Nagel, Head of Philately at Omniva.

The Kaljo Kiisk stamp costs at €1.50 and valid for domestic mail in Estonia. The print run is 32,000 copies. The stamp and first day cover are available from Wednesday, 1 October, in Omniva’s e-shop and post offices across Estonia. The official First Day Stamp is used at the Tallinn Kaubamaja post office.

In 2025, Omniva will issue 30 stamps celebrating significant national and societal events. Omniva’s stamps are printed at Vaba Maa printing house, using FSC-certified paper to ensure responsible forestry practices.
