Beware! Fake campaign is after client data

Another fake campaign that is being presented under the Eesti Post or Omniva name is spreading on the internet. The campaign promises different prizes, calls the client to give feedback on services or they are informed about receiving a paid parcel. The fake campaign spreads online and via text. Omniva is not connected to the fake campaign in any manner whatsoever and we would like to urge our customers to be careful.

Care should be taken as to which address, number or web domain the respective offer is received from. If the address seems foreign, you should certainly avoid opening the link. The correct domain is “omniva.ee” and parcel notifications arrive from address [email protected]. Fake campaigns often include recommendations posted under fake accounts in order to lure in an inexperienced web user by attempting to increase trustworthiness.

Never enter your data to links sent online or by text. Omniva never asks its clients’ credit card information, which is why it is wise to be very attentive in case of such messages, even if the logo seems right. See images of the fake campaign and false parcel notification below. For comparison, we also added a legitimate parcel notification.

What should you do if you already entered your data?

If the cardholder discovers transactions on their statement they have not made, they should submit a recourse application to the bank regarding these transactions and ask the bank to close the credit card. This can also be done in the internet bank. In future, be sure to pay attention to the different options the banks offer to keep your credit card safe. It is also wise to review your credit card limits.

In case of suspected data theft, contact the bank immediately and inform them of the suspected credit card information theft, the card should also be closed, if necessary. Back up the device (pictures, contact information) the fake campaign reached and then restore its factory settings. After restoring the factory settings install all operating system updates and antivirus software, and only then restore the contacts, pictures and other applications.

If credit card information is obtained by thieves, then usually purchases are made in different environments to reduce risks. Often first a very small (for instance, 1-euro) purchase is made to make sure the card works. Then a sequence of larger purchases are made until they reach the limits.
