Look at the rate at which Omniva is installing new parcel machines

Omniva is installing new parcel machines in both cities and smaller settlements and is expanding its existing popular parcel machines. This year, the company plans to grow its parcel machine network in Estonia to double its size.

According to Ansi Arumeel, Member of Omniva’s Management Board, parcel machines are the first delivery preference for people across the Baltic States because of their rapid spread and convenience. ‘Studies show that over 80% of parcel recipients and senders are likelier to prefer parcel machines for sending or collecting parcels, if possible – they are easy to use, convenient, fast and constantly available,’ Arumeel explained.

Whereas to date parcel machines have been a luxury primarily in cities and densely populated areas, Omniva’s expansion this spring will result in 20 next-generation parcel machines reaching, among other places, also smaller settlements. For this reason, sending and picking up a parcel, which has become the main activity, will become several times more convenient and independent of the time of day in the area. ‘A significant number of active online shoppers reside specifically in rural areas, as a result of which parcel machines will not remain a convenience characteristic of the city only. We plan to install parcel machines precisely at those locations where there is demand for them,’ Arumeel explained.

In recent weeks, parcel machines have reached as many as 11 new locations, with another 15 locations reached additionally over the next few weeks. On average, one parcel machine is added to Omniva’s network in a 24-hour period. In addition, 22 existing popular parcel machines will be expanded to a bigger size in order to cope with increased demand. ‘We can see that, in the case of the most popular parcel machines, the number of active online shoppers and the demand for a parcel machine service exceed the service capacity of the existing parcel machine. Hence, we have decided to add a significant number of lockers to existing parcel machines,’ Arumeel explained.

In the second half of this year, Omniva will grow its parcel machine network to a significantly bigger size. ‘Since the levels of interest in parcel machines remain high, we are planning to grow our network in Estonia to double its size in the second half of this year. We are adding over 200 new parcel machines to the network across the Baltic States and are thereby planning to be the logistics company with the unrivalled biggest network in the Baltic States also in the future,’ Arumeel added.

Next-generation parcel machines will run on a software currently being piloted and constantly developed. For the customer, the new parcel machines will be similar to the existing parcel machines both in terms of their look and the user experience. In the near term, however, new software will make it possible to make the use of a parcel machine even more convenient. Among other things, a parcel machine may be used to return a parcel to an online shop. For this, all you have to do is take your merchandise with the relevant code to the same parcel machine from which the parcel was collected.
