Omniva's Robovan pilot titled as the Best Cooperation Project of the year

The winners of the 2017 Tallinn Entrepreneurship Awards were announced at the gala reception held on October 4th, Tallinn Entrepreneurship Day.

The purpose of the Tallinn Entrepreneurship Awards competition is to recognise and value entrepreneurs and all enterprising organisations. Thus, awards were given to the most accomplished entrepreneurs in seven main categories.

The Omniva-Starship-Daimler robotic “last mile” pilot project was named the Best Cooperation Project. The project is being led by AS Eesti Post (Omniva), Starship Technologies OÜ and Daimler AG/Mercedes-Benz. The cooperative efforts of three international companies in three different fields have resulted in the testing of a new service, which will provide an effective solution for the delivery of packages “on the last mile.”

Estonian international logistics company Omniva was the first to trial the Mercedes-Benz ´Robovan´ designed to Starship delivery robots. The 8-week pilot started in the beginning of July and was carried out in a real-world environment in a Tallinn suburb.

Mercedes-Benz Vans and Starship Technologies already introduced the so-called mothership concept back in September 2016. The concept combines the advantages of a van with those of an autonomous delivery robot. A Sprinter presented as a prototype serves as a mobile loading and transport hub for eight robots. Thanks to the intelligent interlinking of delivery processes, it will play a part in significantly improving the efficiency of last-mile delivery logistics in future.

This year, the title of Best Development Project was awarded to Astri Kinnisvara OÜ for the development of the Baltic Station Market. The Astri Group created a new, contemporary and architecturally exciting market on the border of the Old Town, which has significantly redesigned the entire area, including the vicinity of the Baltic Station, as one of the gateways of Tallinn.

3park OÜ was recognised as the Brightest Startup of 2017. The company’s main activity is the construction and maintenance of high and low adventure trails. In addition to the uniqueness of the business model, the company is characterised by excellent added value, return on turnover, and the large share of exports in its sales revenues.

The opening of the KGB prison cells on Pagari St, which was carried out by the Kistler-Ritso Eesti Foundation, was recognised as the Best Tourism Accomplishment. One of the most infamous and feared interrogation prisons of the Soviet era, which had been closed to the public, has now been open to visitors since the summer.  The authentic environment of the KGB cells as a silent and direct witness to the gross violations of human rights is extremely interesting for both local and foreign tourists.

This year, the title of Job Creator of the Year went to Pipedrive OÜ. The company, which offers sales software, started operations seven years ago and is one of the Estonia’s startup success stories. More than 50 thousand clients in 140 countries, and 300 employees in Estonia, the U.S. and Portugal (soon also in England) – these are indicators that characterise the rapid growth of the company during the last few years.

The title of Responsible Company was awarded to Telia Eesti AS. The company is characterised by a new, fresh, and integrated approach to responsible entrepreneurship in all fields by skilfully linking the approach to the company’s business model. The company’s new environmentally friendly headquarters surprises with its activity-based workstations. And the environmental management standards, as well as the management of the supply chain, have also been thoroughly updated.

This time, the Eco-Innovation Award, went to HeyDay Organic OÜ for the implementation of an innovative high-pressure method for producing organic juices. The company opened an organic juice factory in Tallinn at the end of last year that is the first of its kind in the Nordic countries. And it is now causing a juice revolution by producing 100% natural juice without heat processing. The unique high-pressure method enables the juices to remain fresh and vitamin-rich for a significantly longer period of time.
