Omniva`s e-receipt project short-listed among the best in Europe

This year about 33 000 companies from 34 countries applied for the European Business Awards that is Europe’st largest business competition since 2007. Only 350 companies from 34 countries were selected to the next round.

According to Pille Muni, the coordinator of e-receipt project and the representative of Omniva , being selected to the next round is a great recognition for Omniva. „Although the service is currently in pilot phase, it has already received international attention and there is great interest towards it in other countries. Competing at European Business Awards gives us a good opportunity to introduce the aim of Estonian e-receipt project and its purpose to conserve environment to a wider audience,“ said Muni.

„About 20 tons of paper is used to print about 400 million receipts in Estonia in a year-.Producing this amount of paper takes approximately 300 trees, 180 barrels of oil and 1440 litres of water and about 20 tons of waste is being produced. If through e-receipt we manage to reduce the amount of printed receipts even by half,we would save the environment significantly,“ said Muni.

„In near future e-receipt will be adopted in all Alexela petrol stations across Estonia. Simultaneously with system development,  we are negotiating with several larger and smaller sales and service companies in Estonia to join the e-receipt,“ added Muni.

The purpose of the European Business Awards` is to introduce successful European businesses and support the development of a stronger and more successful business community throughout Europe. At present Omniva is competing to become the National Public Champion. Omniva has until 1st of March to collect votes in order to be chosen for the the second round; you can vote for e-receipt project here: http://www.businessawardseurope.com/vote/detail-new/the-award-for-innovation/19823.

The aim of the e-receipt project coordinated by Omniva is to reduce the use of paper receipts in Estonian trade and service sectors. E-receipt portal is a system that enables end users to manage receipts and related documents, such as letters of guarantee and product manuals,  in a single convenient web environment. Traders will be able to reduce problems and costs related to paper receipts, thereby increasing the quality of customer service. It also enables customers to send receipts directly to accountancy.

For its e-receipt project Omniva received the award „Eco-Innovation 2016“ at Tallinn Entrepreneurship Awards 2016.

E-receipt project is performed by international consortium where Omniva, Telia Eesti, Trinidad Consulting, ICT Demo Center and Helesinine from Estonia and Authente from Norvay. Project is funded by  Estonian-Norwegian cooperation program Green ICT.
