Omniva opened a new logistics terminal in Kaunas

The business unit of Omniva Lithuania moved its parcels terminal to larger premises. The new terminal allows the company to transport more parcels faster and more efficiently.

According to Sten Argos, Head of Parcels Business at Omniva, the increasing parcel volumes are not limited to Estonia. “Moving to larger premises was unavoidable at this point. Otherwise we would not be able to handle the end-of-the-year record parcel volumes that are most likely bound to happen,” said Argos.

The new terminal in Northeast Kaunas is located logistically in a more beneficial spot and able to service exponentially larger parcel volumes than the previously used premises. In terms of the surface area, the new terminal is twice as large as its predecessor.

According to Argos, it was only a matter of time as to when the former terminal premises would no longer suffice. “At midsummer this year, our Lithuanian business unit reached a point where more than a million parcels had been delivered to Lithuanian parcel machines,” said Argos.

The Omniva parcel machine network in Lithuania is growing as successfully as its cargo terminals. While Omniva began its operation in 2011 with only 12 parcel machine, then today, 67 of Omniva’s parcel machines out of 276 are located in Lithuania.

Argos noted that the Lithuanian unit, which is now turning five years old, has already performed remarkably well this year. “By the beginning of August, the number of private customer parcels delivered in Lithuania was a third more than last year,” said Argos. “This shows that Lithuanians are just now discovering the convenience and speed of parcel machines compared to traditional mail,” he added.

In addition, Omniva UAB had the largest market share growth in the entire Lithuanian logistics market. Today, in terms of volume, Omniva is already the fourth largest logistics company in Lithuania – after only five years of operation.
