Two Estonian projects nominated for a renowned postal and logistics award

Two Estonian projects – AliExpress to parcel machines and Omniva grocery delivery – have been nominated for awards at the World Post & Parcel Awards 2016, a renowned postal and logistics award.

The two services were nominated for awards in four categories of postal and parcel services. The Omniva grocery delivery service that was launched last year was nominated in the categories of Retail Customer Access and e-Commerce. The “AliExpress to parcel machines” project that was launched last summer was nominated in the Delivery on Demand and Customer Service categories.

“Both nominees are so-called future services,” the Head of Parcels Business of Omniva Sten Argos explains. “Delivery of groceries directly to people’s homes for the sake of convenience will probably become the standard in the future. Similarly, it is obvious that goods from online shops all over the world will at one point be delivered to the most convenient parcel machine for the customer where they will be able to retrieve the parcel at a suitable time,” Argos states.

According to Argos, Omniva has already initiated the grocery delivery idea with three major retail chains operating in Estonia. The Omniva grocery delivery service provides an opportunity to have your daily groceries delivered to your house by a courier. “We launched the service in February 2015 by conducting the first pilot in cooperation with Maxima. Currently we also have partnership agreements with Selver and COOP,” Argos adds. The company has acquired vans equipped with specific refrigeration equipment and provided specific training to their staff in order to provide the grocery delivery service.

The second nominee – the AliExpress parcel machine service – provides an opportunity to have goods from foreign online shops delivered to Omniva parcel machines. Argos explains it as an alternative convenience service that allows you to retrieve your parcel round the clock from any of the 105 Omniva parcel machines in Estonia instead of going to a post office. “The services will include most foreign online shops in the future,” Argos assures.  However, the first stage of the service provides the option of having parcels from the popular Chinese online store AliExpress.com delivered to parcel machines.

The competition originating from the World Mail Awards and bearing the World Post & Parcel Awards name for the first time in 2016 is aimed at recognizing the achievements of the world’s postal and logistics organisations in ten categories. The gala dinner will take place on 15 June in Warsaw at the World Mail & Express Europe conference.
