The century-long story of Kadriorg Stadium reaches a postage stamp
On 10 June, Omniva will issue a postage stamp dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Kadriorg Stadium, celebrating the centenary of one of the most important landmarks in Estonia’s sporting and cultural history. The stamp was designed by Kaarel Kukk.

At the centre of the design is the stadium’s new grandstand, surrounded by a stadium space that connects different eras. The design explores the idea of the stadium as a tunnel through time, where the past, present and future meet, and where sporting achievements continue to inspire new generations.“Kadriorg Stadium has stood at the heart of Estonia’s sporting and cultural life for an entire century. Its grandstands have witnessed world records, major competitions and moments that have become part of our collective memory. This jubilee stamp pays tribute to a place whose story extends far beyond sport and forms an important part of Estonia’s cultural heritage,” said Katri Laanela, Head of Postal Services at Omniva.Since opening in 1926, the national stadium has become a venue where generations have competed, trained and gathered for major sporting events. Olympic champions such as Paavo Nurmi, Heike Drechsler, Erki Nool and Gerd Kanter have competed there, alongside many other world-class athletes. For decades, it also served as the home stadium of the Estonian national football team.Kadriorg Stadium is also an important architectural landmark. One of its best-known features is the reinforced concrete grandstand designed by Elmar Lohk and August Komendant. Its cantilever roof, completed in 1938, was considered one of the most advanced architectural solutions in Europe at the time.
The Kadriorg Stadium stamp is priced at €1.80 and is intended for domestic mail. The print run is 6,000 copies. The stamp and First Day Cover are available in the Omniva e-shop and post offices across Estonia. The First Day postmark will be available at the Tallinn Kaubamaja post office on 10 June and at the Sikupilli post office on 13 June.Omniva stamps are printed on paper bearing the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification for responsible forestry. The FSC label confirms that the wood used to produce the paper comes from responsibly managed forests.
