Omniva will sell Maksekeskus
Omniva, Inbank, and minority shareholders decided to sell Maksekeskus to a new strategic investor – Luminor Bank. The transaction requires the approval of the Financial Supervision Authority and the Estonian Competition Authority.
Maksekeskus was established in 2012 with the aim of offering secure and convenient payment solutions and services related to e-commerce to e-merchants and their customers. Payments are mediated through Maksekeskus in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Finland.
According to Mart Mägi, Chairman of the Management Board of Omniva, the entire team of Maksekeskus has done extraordinary work to strengthen e-commerce. ‘It is in times of rapid development of e-commerce that we see an excellent development perspective for the organisation in acquiring a new shareholder. In accordance with the strategy of Omniva, the activities provided by Maksekeskus are no longer strategically important for the company. The services of Maksekeskus are free market services and not of national importance. With the revenue from the sale of Maksekeskus, we want to improve the availability of the postal service by renovating post offices and expanding the network of parcel machines in rural areas and increase the automation in the provision of parcel services, the volume of which increased significantly during COVID-19,’ said Mägi.
According to Luminor CEO, Peter Bosek, the Baltics is one of the most dynamic e-commerce markets in Europe. “This acquisition will allow us to participate in this fast-growing and developing area. It will also transform our SME offering for the benefit of our customers. We see great alignment with our vision to support the growth in SMEs and the broader Baltic economies. Our pan-Baltic reach will help to accelerate MKK's expansion into Latvia and Lithuania, and the acquisition will strengthen our SME footprint in Estonia. We look forward to working with the MKK team to bring innovative payment solutions to our large network of SME customers," said Bosek.
Omniva is an international logistics company owned by the Estonian state. The group of Omniva includes Eesti Post Ltd as a dominant company and Payment Centre Estonia Ltd, Omniva UAB in Lithuania and Omniva SIA in Latvia as subsidiaries. The group's associated company Post11 OÜ also belongs to the group.
