Omniva: Brexit will not affect the movement of postal items this year

The United Kingdom is no longer a member of the European Union as of 1 February. The transitional period, which lasts until 31 December 2020, has now started. Everything will remain the same for the people who order and send postal items and they will move as before.
There will be no changes for Estonians in the e-commerce and postal service between the United Kingdom and the EU during the transitional period and the free movement of goods will continue until the end of this period. “There is no need for consumers to worry about sending and delivery of goods, all postal items sent from the UK to Estonia will move as usual after 31 January as well, and the delivery time will not become longer for the consumers,” assured Head of Omniva Parcel Business Andre Veskimeister. He added that Omniva has reviewed its logistics chain and made preparations for the smooth movement of postal items.
According to Veskimeister, British online stores are popular among Estonian e-shoppers and the only country that can compete with their volumes is Germany, which was given a boost by Brexit. “People can buy from British online shops as before until the end of the year and there will be no extra taxes or fees,” said Veskimeister and emphasised that buyers should always read the purchase and transport conditions when buying from online shops in order to avoid any problems.
However, the same rules that apply to the postal items of all other third countries (e.g. the US, China, etc.) will also start applying to parcels from the UK as of 1 January 2021.
Omniva urges clients to always given attention to packaging when they send parcels. Correctly chosen packaging protects the contents of the parcel from damage and soiling that may occur during transport and guarantees that the shipment reaches the recipient safely.
