The story of our changes

Our story starts officially on 13 November 1918 when the newly-emerged Estonian Republic took over the Tallinn post and telegraph office from the Germans and founded its own national postal service. The story has continued for 95 years and many exciting chapters have been written in it, and now, in 2014, we are starting a new chapter. The title of the chapter is Omniva.

We have always remained close to the people, whoever the rulers of the state, whatever the party in power, and whichever way the wind may blow. Our aim has always been to bring the world to our home area. We have always stood for people being able to communicate amongst themselves and able to send goods and exchange information. These things have remained unchanged throughout our century of work and they are still unchanged now.

Our everyday life, however, has changed. Rapid developments in information and communication technologies have led to irreversible changes in the way people communicate and in their consumption habits. We buy goods from online shops in China, Britain and Germany, we identify ourselves with ID cards and keep in touch with friends and family around the world using email and Skype.

Going shopping no longer means waiting for a bus or checking opening times, while writing to a friend no longer means putting paper in an envelope and sticking a stamp on it. With a computer or a smartphone you are only a step away from the shop, the bank, the post office, the voting booth or your friend’s home. Eesti Post has kept up with these changes and has also introduced our own changes.

The new options that we can provide can spark up Estonian enterprise and drive it forward. We have taken our activities beyond the borders of our home state, and the whole of the Baltic region is now a domestic market for us. We also help other companies to enter foreign markets and we create e-solutions that make it easier for companies to do their work. With our help, companies can move their billing, documents and correspondence over to a digital space, saving costs and saving trees. We make business simpler and faster and we help create success stories.

We are a partner for buyers and for sellers. We bring goods bought online from faraway countries quickly to the shopper’s home, a nearby post office or a parcel machine. Our strength is our multitude of channels and our ability to combine pathways for information and goods in just the way it suits each individual.

We are an international logistics company. Traditional postal services, where our story started, now make up only third of our business and for this reason the name Eesti Post has grown a little small for us now. This well-known and tradition-rich name will remain and you will see it whenever you enter a post office or meet our mail delivery staff in the streets, but you will know our international logistics company under a new name from now on.

Our name is Omniva.

What does Omniva mean?

Our new name Omniva comes from the Latin word omni, meaning all-inclusive, all in one, everything. It expresses how we provide all-in-one solutions for clients as we unite the physical and digital worlds through our network of channels.

Our logo is a ring that comes from the first letter of our name and symbolises eternal movement. The ring also symbolises unity and endless possibility, a never-ending circulation, a simultaneous start and end. It is our aim that things should move. The ring may be a closed symbol but we can bring together a range of pathways for moving information and goods for our clients. This is also symbolised in our logo, in which the ring is broken open into pieces and recombined as a new whole. We can use those pieces to create individual solutions that are perfect for each client.

Our ring is made up of sectors in different colours and each colour in the ring has its own specific meaning.

Firstly, our ring is orange. This is the colour of Eesti Post and it carries all of our history, of which we are all proud. Orange reflects our century of knowledge and experience.

Next to the familiar orange is a slightly brighter orange sector, which is like the younger relation of the original. The brighter orange reflects our freshness and our youth.

To be a strong and growing company we need strength and the energy to grow and this is what the red in our logo shows.

The proper name for the pinkish shade is Ruby Red, and it is one of the newest shades and celebrates innovation. We work to be the flagship in logistics in the whole Baltic region and for this we need new ideas and approaches.
